FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Rev. Robin Blair Announces Series
On Media Literacy Embracing
Faith-Centered Family Values

Parents can get help in navigating the media culture with their children!

Rev. Robin Blair recently introduced the Keep the Faith Media Literacy Series, a selection of presentations on the importance of keeping faith alive among the constant buzz of popular culture.

For parents who are confused and overwhelmed at the sheer amount of media they and their children encounter on a daily basis – help is on the way.  Staying faith-centered and media savvy is possible if you have the training that allows you to navigate the waters.  This training is available to faith-based organizations and parenting groups who care about faithful living in media culture.

As a pastor, and media professional, Blair uses her inside understanding of the media world to provide a “theological lens” for parents, youth ministers, clergy and other child care providers to more closely examine media choices.

“Children view over 10,000 advertisements each year and are bombarded with subtle messages everywhere they turn – from the TV to the Internet to their favorite video games,” she explained. “As a media producer and creator, I hope to guide those who care deeply about children to a more careful examination of the messages – both good and bad – that are forced on our families every day. This series looks at the ways we can work together to make sure these messages our children receive reflect the family-friendly values we come to understand as what is meaningful in our lives.”

Blair’s two-hour presentations include:

  • Understanding the Commercial Advertising Messages

  • Recognizing Racism/Sexism in Media Programming, What’s Going On in Those Video Games

  • Is the “Big Screen” Any Different

  •  Media Culture: Why Is it After My Kids?

  • It’s Only Music, Right?

  • Internet Safety: What In the World Is on the Worldwide Web?

She is available for engagements throughout the United States, and most presentations can be tailored to a specific subject matter or timeframe.

Now a pastor in the United Methodist Church, Blair’s early career focused on media where she was a host for the Cable Value Network (now QVC), producer/host for Radio AAhs, the nation’s only children’s radio network: and co-creator/producer of Once Upon a Tree, a puppet/live action television show for Animal Planet, and music composition.

Now a respected authority on media literacy, and website producer for Faith and Values Media, (www.families.faithstreams.com), Blair knows talking with parents is the best way to share messages of importance, which is why this series is proving to be so popular.
Blair also is an accomplished musician and recording artist who has release four faith-based CDs for children with more music on the way.  “Writing music for children in faith is part of my call to ministry”, she explains. For information on the Keep the Faith Media Literacy Series and appearance schedule/availability, contact Blair at robin@robinblair.com  and  315-729-4485.
